I quickly ran down the steps and around the corner to my neighborhood bodega. Mateo’s shop was always stocked with the essentials. I made my way to Mateo at the counter with my credit card in one hand and a jug of milk in the other only to be stopped mid-purchase.


“Oh no my friend, my POS has been down all day. I can only take cash,” Mateo explained sullenly.
