PCI SSC accepting SIG proposals for 2014
The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) is seeking proposals for the formation of new security-related special interest groups (SIGs) in 2014. The SIGs, which are composed of industry professionals and focused on specific topics that deal with data security, help the PCI SSC provide up-to-date information to its membership about current data security challenges and best practices.
"The real value in special interest groups is that they are driven by the community at large," said PCI SSC General Manager Bob Russo. "The ideas come from those who are living and breathing payment card security every day, representing a variety of industries and job functions. Some of our most useful resources are products of these groups' work."
Guidance gained
Recent SIG collaborations have resulted in guidance papers concerning the Europay/MasterCard/Visa standard, wireless transactions, the virtualization of data, the tokenization of data, how to limit the scope of risk assessments, e-commerce and cloud computing issues. SIGs present updates at annual PCI community meetings and then publish their findings to the entire community of PCI participating organizations (POs).
The community of over 650 POs, and members of the risk assessment community, have until July 25, 2013, to submit ideas for new SIGs. At the close of the submission period, the council will review and consolidate the proposals to be presented at the community meeting in November 2013, where POs will vote for the SIGs. At that point the three top vote-getters will become the new SIGs for the coming year.
