Ingenico expands access to Russian marketplace
Ingenico Group’s global ecommerce division has taken a leading role in helping enterprise-level merchants reach Russian consumers with Ingenico ePayments, a new ecommerce solution. Designed to improve risk management while reducing legal fees and compliance issues, the solution enables international merchants promote their products and services across the Russian online marketplace, Ingenico representatives stated.
In addition, Ingenico ePayments partnered with inCruises International, a cruise membership club, to offer value-added services to the company’s customers and independent representatives. By supporting multiple currencies, including Russian MIR cards, the solution will enable Russian customers and independent representatives to transact in native currencies while eliminating fluctuating pricing and conversion fees, Ingenico said.
Nick Tubb, vice president commercial affairs at Ingenico ePayments, stated the Russian market can be incredibly complex and challenging for international merchants to navigate alone. “With our new unique solution, online merchants can now reach Russian consumers more easily and securely,” he said. “For inCruises customers who value their ability to travel, this more effective customer experience will be extremely valuable."
Transforming Russian ecommerce
Joseph Leija, general manager, North America, at Ingenico ePayments, said the new solution transforms how international online merchants do business in Russia by offering domestic processing and cross-border settlement through Russia's leading acquiring banks, including Sberbank, the biggest bank in Central and Eastern Europe. This enables inCruises customers to easily and securely pay for travel, he added.
“Ingenico is a one-stop shop for a majority of enterprise-level international merchants,” Leija said. “We help them expand globally by connecting them to banks and card brands and supporting 150 payment schemes. We work across numerous verticals, including travel companies, online gaming and multilevel marketing companies.”
Leija additionally noted that Ingenico ePayments provides inCruises’ members and partners with an array of alternative payments and localized payment options, such as Qiwi and Yandex and unified payments interface platforms like SOFORT, iDEAL and Bank Transfer.
Simple, secure, seamless
In a February 2019 presentation at Merchant Payment Ecosystem 2019 in Berlin, Richard Jolly, director, business development, ecommerce, fraud and omnichannel at ACI Worldwide, discussed the challenges and requirements of developing a payment platform that delivers a global omnichannel experience.
“The omnichannel platform of tomorrow demands immediacy, seamlessness and security at every touchpoint,” Jolly said. “The challenge of delivering on this is magnified for those seeking international expansion. Merchants must deploy platforms that are flexible and agile, which means leveraging a vendor agnostic co-creation approach and utilizing customized infrastructure.”
Gabriel de Montessus, senior vice president global online (retail business unit) for Ingenico Group, said payment processing is rapidly evolving in Russia. Service providers had previously relied on offshore acquiring banks and local legal representatives, which made acquiring expensive and time-consuming. Ingenico is monitoring the fast-changing Russian compliance and regulatory environment to ensure payment practices continue to run smoothly and securely, he added.
