Garima Shah honored for outstanding leadership

Garima Shah, president at Biller Genie, joined the Orlando Business Journal's 2021 class of 40 Under 40 business leaders. Chosen by OBJ staff and an independent judging panel, this year's award recipients helped Florida communities survive the pandemic, OBJ representatives stated, adding that honorees represent Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia and Brevard counties.

The journal commended Shah on her empathetic style of leadership and large following, noting that she received numerous nominations from her colleagues and peers at Biller Genie. "She is a rarity—a woman with not just the capacity for greatness, but someone who personifies it," presenters stated.

When asked by The Green Sheet how she learned she had won the prestigious award, she revealed she was notified by email. "It was so exciting, as this is an award I have seen so many amazing people win in the past years, and I am honored to be among such great company."

In reflecting upon what it means to be an OBJ 40 Under 40 honoree, she sand it was uplifting to be recognized by her peers and her company. "I have spent most of my life in Central Florida, so to be honored as a mover and shaker in my community is surreal," she added.

Challenges and inspiration

Shah mentioned that business is inherently fraught with challenges. "From increasing revenue to decreasing expenses, and everything in between, there is a challenge at every corner," she noted. "My attitude is to turn all these challenges into opportunities. Not everyone will stick it out and get through the tough times, but if you can use sheer will to be the last 'woman' standing, you will be rewarded for your trouble."

When it comes to setting her sights high and persisting, Shah said her parents have always been her inspiration. "As a first-generation American, I watched them learn a new culture, make new friends, and leave their family behind to create the best life for myself and my brother," she recalled. "Making sure that I honor their sacrifice is what inspires me every day."

Shah also finds inspiration in her Biller Genie team. "It is a group of talented, extraordinary men and women who work their butts off every day to ensure our success," she said.
