Triton ATMs to dispense prepaid cards
Recognizing the revenue potential inherent in the expanding prepaid card industry, ATM manufacturer Triton said it will begin to sell prepaid cards via its ATMs. Triton partnered with Better ATM Services Inc. to integrate ATM prepaid card functionality with existing and new Triton ATM models.
The types of prepaid card products to be offered via the Triton ATMs will include gift cards, transit passes, event ticketing and phone cards. The cards will be automatically activated at the time of purchase and dispensed via existing cash trays, thereby eliminating the need for upgrades and additional hardware for ATMs, Better ATM Services said.
According to Triton President Daryl Cornell, the new initiative represents a dramatic shift in the ATM industry. "This agreement represents a giant step forward in expanding income-generating opportunities for ATM owners," he said. "The addition of prepaid card sales through our large base of ATM owners is a true game changer for the ATM industry."
ISOs that sell ATM services will benefit, Cornell added. "Consumers are demanding more value and convenience and that's exactly what enabled ATMs will give them," he said. Todd Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer at Better ATM Services, noted that the prepaid card industry will also benefit, as ATMs offer a new and secure distribution channel for prepaid cards.
