Payments 'bests' at Finovate conference

At the FinovateFall 2012 technology conference held Sept. 12 and 13, 2012, in New York City, four of the eight companies deemed "Best of Show" were payments-related businesses. Of the 64 companies that demonstrated their products and solutions, conference attendees voted Dashlane, Dynamics Inc., PayTap Inc. and ShopKeep.com Inc. into the top eight.

Dashlane is a mobile application that automatically populates consumer information into the checkout windows of smart phone-optimized websites. Consumer data, including passwords, are encrypted locally, on individual devices, with only the phones' users having access to master passwords that unlock the data. Dashlane also offers receipt tracking.

Dynamics offers a physical mobile wallet the size of a credit card that stores multiple accounts and is mag stripe-enabled. The devices are called electronic plates (e-plates) that link to an online interface and allow users to determine what card accounts or mobile apps are active on the e-plates. Physical buttons on the e-plates are pressed to activate a particular card account, or app, to make transactions at the POS.

PayTap is an online, person-to-person bill payment solution that allows bill payees to enlist the help of family and friends to pay their bills. Users add outstanding bills to online accounts. Automatic notifications of the need for bill pay help is sent to users' Facebook accounts, or via email, to family and friends. Philanthropic individuals then can pay the bills of others directly.

ShopKeep provides a software-as-a-service platform that turns Apple Inc. iPads into POS and back-office solution devices. The ShopKeep POS iPad app allows retailers to process physical bankcards and mobile payments, print and email receipts, and print orders remotely to restaurant kitchens. The solution is being marketed as a countertop space saver.
