Money20/20 grows with fintech ecosystem

A new report from digital trust company Sift revealed fraudsters are upping their games. The report details the emergence of a new scam in which cybercriminals collaborate to liquidate bank accounts through cryptocurrency exchanges and connected wallets that have been ignored amid the "crypto winter," a term coined to describe the rough patch cryptocurrencies have seen this year. The term is comparable to a bear market in the stock market.

QuickFee exits BNPL

The Australian finance company QuickFee Ltd. is bowing out of the U.S. market for buy now, pay later (BNPL). In a statement released on Sept. 13, 2022, the company's board of directors said that BNPL was a drain on its balance sheet. Going forward, the company said it will hone its focus on payment and financing services for the professional services sector.

An international standards group approved a new merchant category code (MCC) for gun shops—a move that has been hailed by gun control advocates and drawn the ire of gun advocates. Right now, gun shops are not treated as a separate category of merchants, unlike, for example grocery stores and cigar stores.
