Trade association news update

Staffed largely with volunteers dedicated to fostering professionalism and creating opportunities within the payments industry, the trade associations dedicated to our sphere are always up to something interesting and never disappoint.

Following is just a sampling of the latest projects in progress right now:

  • The Midwest Acquirers Association is set to occur July 16 through 18, 2013, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. This is the group's 11th annual conference, and the vendor hall is sold out. It's still possible to register as a roaming vendor or attendee, and roaming vendors can be added to the vendor wait list. Treats planned include the Shark Attack III Innovation Competition and the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation, as well as sessions on such topics as the hidden risks facing ISOs, the impact new players will have on the industry, new perspectives on partnerships and more. For more information, visit www.midwestacquirers.com/MWAA-next-conference-event.php .

  • The Electronic Transactions Association and the SCIL-EMV Academy are collaborating to present the two-day Mobile & NFC Fundamentals workshop. It will take place July 16 and 17, 2013, in Washington, D.C. The main agenda: the technical and business fundamentals of implementing Europay/MasterCard/Visa (EMV), mobile and near field communication technologies in the U.S. payments milieu. Another workshop, EMV – The Fundamentals, is planned for Sept. 3 and 4 in Atlanta. For details, visit www.scilemvacademy.com or email Stew Chalmers at stew@emvacademy.com .

  • Women's Network in Electronic Transactions (W.net) slated its 2013 Career & Leadership Summit for Sept. 9 and 10 in Atlanta. W.net designed this annual conference to be "the premiere business conference dedicated solely to women professionals in the electronic payments industry." Workshop topics will include how to think outside the box, effectively coaching your employees, rethinking leadership, reputation management, international payments and putting more women in the board room. • The Western States Acquirers Association is holding its 10th annual meeting Oct. 8 and 9, at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, Calif., just outside of San Francisco. Like the MWAA, WSAA's exhibitor spaces have already sold out. However, a limited amount of prime slots are still open for those who sign up as show sponsors. Also, roaming vendors can be placed on the exhibitor wait list. The theme for this year's event is Motivate, Educate, Innovate. WSAA is also launching its Certified Payments Professional scholarship program this year in partnership with the ETA. For more information, visit www.westernstatesacquirers.com .
