Court upholds Illinois interchange prohibition

A federal judge in Chicago dealt a blow to efforts to eighty-six an Illinois law that would prohibit interchange fee assessments on sales tax and tip portions of card transactions. The Interchange Fee Prohibition Act, signed into law in 2024, had been set to take effect last July. But the state postponed enactment for a year while a banking industry challenge played out in federal district court.

Cryptocurrency payments are moving into the mainstream with nearly four in 10 (39 percent) of merchants now accepting cryptocurrencies at the point of sale, according to research just released by the nonprofit National Cryptocurrency Association and PayPal. What's more, nearly four out of five merchants (84 percent) believe crypto will become commonplace within the next five years.
