ETA Transact to honor startups, young leaders

Preparations for the Electronic Transaction Association's annual Transact conference, to be held April 17 to 19, 2018, in Las Vegas, include spotlighting groundbreaking startups that will compete for cash prizes, as well as naming of 40 leaders under the age of 40 who are redefining payments.

During this year's ETA Transact, nine innovative startups will square-off in the Payments Pitch-Off for a chance to win the top cash prize of $30,000 or the $5,000 cash prize for audience favorite. Participants will be presenting payment products that either solve or take a new approach to an industry challenge by leveraging software.

"Fintech startups know that Transact is the place to make industry connections and secure funding since VCs and established payments companies are all at Transact to find the next big thing," said ETA CEO Jason Oxman. "The Payments Pitch-Off at Transact gives innovative startups the keynote stage to show off their products and services to the industry's preeminent leaders at the world's largest payments industry event."

Pitch-Off finalists selected to compete this year include Apptizer Inc., Candex, Enroll & Pay, Extend, Finix Payments, Menusifu, Modo, ProxToMe and Sezzle. To be eligible, companies were required earn annual revenue of less than $5 million, funding to date under $15 million, have fewer than 50 employees and be independently operated.

Top 40 under 40

During the Visa President's Dinner & Star Awards Gala., the ETA will honor its inaugural class of Forty Under 40, a roster of individuals whose actions and leadership are driving payments innovation. Drawn from nominations received, the final group represents founders, analysts, reporters and C-level executives engaged in advancing digital wallets, omnichannel commerce, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other technologies.

"ETA’s first Forty Under 40 class are growing the industry at an unprecedented pace," Oxman said. "Each one possesses a unique skillset, allowing them to identify and shape key segments of the payments ecosystem. The caliber and impact of their work is exceptional and demonstrates their commitment to the industry."

Tim Tynan, ETA President and Chairman of the Board, and CEO of Bank of America Merchant Services, added, "This group of young industry leaders is advancing the future of digital commerce and powering the economy for merchants and consumers. I'm excited to see how they continue to use their talents and insights to push electronic payments forward."
