Visa, NFL team up for payments at Super Bowl LIII

The Los Angeles Rams will face the New England Patriots for Super Bowl LIII, which is coming up Sun., Feb. 3, 2019, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. And Visa, a partner of the National Football League since 1995, just renewed its agreement with the NFL to serve as the league’s Official Payment Services Technology Partner through the 2025 season.

The new multiyear sponsorship deal includes new benefits for Visa cardholders at NFL events and plans to collaborate on the first cashless Super Bowl in the future, Visa stated. “Over the years, we have evolved our relationship with the NFL from a sponsorship to a partnership that provides invaluable payment experiences for fans,” said Lynne Biggar, chief marketing and communications officer at Visa. “Looking ahead, we see a cashless future for NFL fans where events, including future Super Bowls, are digital creating a more secure and seamless payment environment for fans and concessionaires alike.”

A step forward

In response to this news, Michael Jaszczyk, CEO of GK Software USA, shared why this move is a step in the right direction for the payments industry.

“Visa’s plans to encourage cashless payments during the Super Bowl this year is a big step forward in creating a more frictionless experience for fans,” Jaszczyk said. “No one likes to wait in a checkout line, and this is especially true when missing out on a big game.”

Jaszczyk noted that the future of checkout means fast, seamless and secure payment, whether in stadiums, retail stores, restaurants or gas stations. “That’s why innovative technology built on sound POS logic, including contactless cards, wearables and mobile POS, is necessary to give customers the speed and convenience they expect and demand,” he said. “Mobile POS and contactless payment transactions are growing rapidly, and those who implement this technology will become the ultimate winners – regardless of who the NFL crowns its champ.”

Visa reported that at Super Bowl LIII the company will increase its presence at multiple NFL Shops leading up to and during the game, including at the stadium, NFL Shop kiosks and two NFL Shops at the Super Bowl Experience in the Georgia World Congress Center.

“Visa is reinventing the NFL Shop’s checkout by activating a MVP checkout lane that encourages customers to tap to pay with contactless enabled devices (cards, mobile or wearables) to get in and out quickly,” the company said, adding that it will host other activities on-site including an interactive augmented reality demo experience that will give fans the ability to simulate checkout by successfully kicking their items through virtual goalposts. end of article
