MPC2020 waives fees as registration soars

Billed as the future of mobile and digital commerce, the 10th annual Mobile Payments Conference, scheduled for Aug. 24 to 26, 2020, will feature an all-star lineup of subject matter experts, according to Marla Ellerman, executive director of the conference, which has already attracted more than 1,000 attendees.

"We are grateful to our sponsors for making this year's conference available to everyone in our industry," Ellerman said. "Registration is normally $599 per person. By picking up the tab, our sponsors are helping everyone connect, network and learn from each other at a time when digital commerce is critical for businesses and consumers worldwide."

Ellerman pointed out that MPC20's decision to examine all forms of digital commerce predated the current coronavirus pandemic. It was more of a reflection of the show's organic growth and alignment with payments industry trends, she stated, which have significantly evolved beyond mobile payments to an array of emerging technology solutions.

Future commerce

MPC20 will focus on the future of alternative payment technologies, Ellerman noted. Among the highlights will be a Zelle workshop, hosted by U.S. Bank, and WeedTech US, a workshop for cannabis, CBD and hemp payments professionals.

MPC20 keynote speakers will include the following payments industry leaders:

  • Sarika Sangwan, global vertical strategy & marketing lead, financial services, Pinterest

  • Laura Weinflash, vice president, strategy, Zelle

  • Paul McAdam, senior director, banking and payments, J.D. Power

  • Scott Talbott, senior vice president, government relations, Electronic Transactions Association (ETA)

  • Scott Goldthwaite, president, Aliaswire

  • Tiffani Montez, senior analyst, Aite Group

Additional workshops and presentations will include cash discounts and surcharging, payment facilitation, blockchain and cryptocurrency and more, Ellerman noted.

"Peter Gordon, executive vice president and head of enterprise money movement at U.S. Bank, will moderate a panel on real-time payments, which is the future of all commerce models," Ellerman said. "This is one of many can't miss sessions at MPC20."

Innovation, digital wallet awards

MPC has become known as a boutique show that connects innovators and senior executives from financial, technology, government, retail, marketing and mobile industries, Ellerman stated. She added that attendees have access to experts in emerging payments and commerce, blockchain and digital currencies, cybersecurity and consumer privacy, customer experience and loyalty, and customer engagement and marketing.

Award presentations will honor "the best of the best" digital wallet innovators, presented by Thad Peterson, senior analyst at Aite Group. The MPC 2020 Visionary Award, presented by Dale Laszig, senior staff writer at The Green Sheet, will recognize a payments provider that has reimagined a traditional service model.

"Our industry is helping to keep people safe during the pandemic, and we expect to see a lasting impact, including the acceleration of contactless payments, digital commerce movement that's driving people away from cash transactions," Ellerman said. "As the world battles COVID-19 this year, the MPC20 conference is going virtual, and the content is more valuable than ever."
