Conference to ponder future of smart cards

Smart Card Alliance, a not-for-profit, multi-industry association mainly invested to promote education of the appropriate uses of smart card technology, is gearing up for its annual conference.

This year, the theme is Smart Cards: The Future of Digital Transactions. The event will be held Oct. 9 to 11, 2007, at the Marriott Long Wharf in Boston. It will offer presentations and panel discussions highlighting smart card advances in market adoption, innovation and future market trends around the world.

Smart cards are rapidly changing in varied markets: contactless and mobile payments; transit with regional and national fare card changes; health care with electronic medical records and personal health cards; and mobile telecom with new technology.

The annual conference is one of the largest events for Smart Card Alliance. It brings together the smart card industry and its experts to share their visions of market trends and smart card applications in all markets. Alliance members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

Speakers and panelists will discuss technological innovations that are driven by demands for more capable and secure solutions to meet different market requirements. Industry analysts, as well as leading technology and service providers will divulge their firsthand experiences with smart card implementation.

Topics will include corporate and governmental identification policies and practices, new merchant payment opportunities, mobile payments and near field communication, health care cards, transportation and parking, and emerging technologies.

On Oct. 12, 2007, Smart Card Alliance will host a smart card technology and applications workshop as an additional option to all of those who attend the conference.
