Amadis, nexo promote simplified, standardized payments

October meetings in Montreal and Madrid, separately hosted by Amadis and nexo standards, will address efforts to standardize global payment acceptance, the organizations stated.

Jacques Soussana, secretary general of nexo standards, noted that consumers expect flexible payment options at all points of interaction. "Implementation, management and evolution of such services can be complex, due to the intricate upgrades needed, fragmentation between different stakeholders and increasing regulation," he said in an Oct. 10, 2022, statement. "The upcoming annual conference is key to bringing the entire value chain together to ensure the ecosystem evolves to suit everyone's needs."

Normand Provost, program manager officer & liaison at nexo, agreed consumers and businesses are adapting to an integrated software culture. "EMV, PCI and ISO were a good start but we need to address the full transaction chain," he said in a recent interview with The Green Sheet. "Fortunately, European regulators remain focused on globalization, harmonization and interoperability."

Provost went on to say that nexo, an open, not-for-profit association, is committed to removing barriers to global payment acceptance through fast, borderless, standardized exchanges of data among all payment acceptance stakeholders. The nexo specifications and messaging protocols adhere to ISO 20022 standards, he added, which makes them universally applicable.

Approaches to global implementation and deployment will be further addressed at nexo's annual conference, to be held Oct. 26, 2022, at the Melia Madrid Princesa Hotel. Organizers said the event will feature speakers from leading organizations, including Afsol, Amadis, Bizum, Caisse Fédérale de Crédit Mutuel, Castles Technology, Crédit Agricole Payment Services, Diebold Nixdorf, Discover, Famoco, fime, Fiserv, Ingenico, KAL, NCR, Nexi Payments, Novelpay, PagoNxt (Banco Santander), Partelya Consulting, Redsys, SIBS, TotalEnergies and Verifone.

Attendees can join four roundtable discussions, organizers noted, on SoftPOS, payments standardization in Europe, financial investments, and predictions for the future of commerce.

Patrice Hertzog, chairman of the nexo board, encouraged payments industry stakeholders to register for the free conference, which, he noted, will provide a crucial platform for advocates of simplified payments acceptance. "In the beautiful city of Madrid—which offers a fresh, dynamic and diverse financial setting—our agenda is firmly set on the future of payments, as we identify adaptability as the key to success."

Amadis meeting

Emmanuel Haydont, CEO and co-founder at Amadis Inc., praised nexo for advancing universal payments, standardization and SoftPOS, which have helped create a more dynamic market. Amadis, a global payment technology services provider, has championed nexo standards to advance global payments acceptance, he stated.

"nexo standards and the Android operating system are flattening the curve and helping us provide universal solutions," he said. "By leveraging these elements, Amadis removes technology dependencies and fragmentation caused by different protocols and payment systems."

Haydont further noted that Amadis SoftPOS can work anywhere in the world on any platform, from legacy POS systems to commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) devices. He said these capabilities have helped partnering organizations simplify global deployments and estate management.

Bohdan Myroniw, chief strategic officer at Amadis, agreed, stating that converting COTS devices to accept payments has been a major step forward. "Today, the integration for enabling payments on a COTS device is no different on a payment terminal," he said, adding that security, reliability and performance levels remain the same. "From a cost perspective, what I love about COTS is they exist today at Tier 1 merchants, small business startups and last-mile-delivery companies. Even bus drivers use them to scan tickets."

Modularity is key

Myroniw also mentioned that Amadis kernels can be configured and customized according to user requirements. A merchant or an ISV can pick and choose what they want to do, he said, whether they just want the payments component, or security and payments or security only.

"It's a really modular approach and highly recommended for Tier One merchants with complex infrastructures," he said. "We provide the necessary components so retailers can leverage their existing infrastructures and enterprise partners to deliver the last mile of the solution and get it certified within their own enterprise."

After years of working with major enterprises, Amadis is now also working with small and midsize companies, Myroniw noted, as global interoperability continues to scale. These themes and global paytech trends will be further explored at the Amadis User Conference, an invitation-only event to be held Oct. 17 to 19, 2022, at the Montreal Humaniti hotel, he said. end of article
