To qualify, Inc. Regional contenders must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit organizations, Inc. representatives stated, noting that applicants must have been founded and generating revenue before March 31, 2020. Minimum revenue requirements are $100,000 for 2020 and $1 million for 2022.
Noting that Inc. has ranked companies by revenue growth for more than 40 years using Inc. 5000 metrics, the company created a separate category for early-stage companies, noting that many were hiring employees at times when other enterprises were announcing layoffs.
In recognition of these young companies, Inc. began to measure growth over a two-year period instead of the three-year metrics used for the Inc. 5000 list. Following is a sampling of payment-centric honorees:

In congratulating winners and repeat honorees, Inc. noted that the emerging companies are among America's biggest job creators, calling them formidable disrupters with a lot of wisdom to share.
Ben Griefer, chief operating officer, Maverick Payments, stated that the company is honored to be included in the Inc. 5000 list for a third consecutive year and to have moved up 98 places among extraordinary companies.

Austin Mac Nab, founder and CEO at VizyPay, was also pleased to see his company make a third consecutive appearance on the prestigious list, among other fast-growing private companies in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
