NAC fights ATM crime with new reporting tool

The National ATM Council unveiled its U.S. Secure ATM Database on March 5, 2024, the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at protecting the retail ATM ecosystem. Designed to enhance ATM safety, the new reporting tool for independent ATM providers and suppliers will help local, state and federal law enforcement agencies identify and track criminal activities at ATMs across the country, NAC officials stated.

Thanking sponsors and supporters, NAC Executive Director Bruce Wayne Renard described the database as a critical resource that will help improve ATM security, stating,"NAC is most appreciative of the generous industry leading founding sponsors who have provided the financial underwriting commitments needed to develop and deploy this important new database, to help improve security for our industry and cash-seeking consumers nationwide: PAI/Brinks, dormakaba, Star Financial Services, Inc., ATMPartMart.com, and MiniBranch."

Calling all deployers

Patrick Conner, board chair at NAC and CEO of ATMPartMart.com, agreed the U.S. Secure ATM Database and its detailed nationwide intel will help stem a rising tide of ATM crime.

"This is a great day for the safety of all U.S. ATM operators and for the millions of consumers who rely daily on these vital terminals for essential access to cash and financial services," he said in a statement in which he encouraged ATM operators to enter crime incidents they experience into the database to help good guys stay ahead of criminals.

Conner further noted that the U.S. Secure ATM Database has passed beta testing and is now available for public use. He added that U.S. ATM operators can enter crime incidents into the database at no charge, and preauthorized NAC members can view and download updates in map and text formats. Certain information, however, such as specific identity, location or other proprietary information will be limited to law enforcement members.

Access to the database is one of many NAC membership benefits, Conner noted, stating that NAC is a not-for-profit membership association for bank-sponsored independent U.S. ATM operators and suppliers.

Collaborative effort

Ed Cramer, NAC vice chair and CEO of Pro-Solv Solutions, thanked local, state and federal officials for their enthusiastic support and positive feedback. The project was a collaborative effort, he stated, thanking ATM industry experts Bruce Coward and Rebecca Hellmann for their assistance in design and development and the following monthly sponsors for ongoing support:

  • Cash Depot

  • dormakaba

  • DPL

  • Genmega

  • Grant Victor

  • Hyosung Innovue

  • LOOMIS

  • OptConnect

  • Paramount Management Group

  • Switch Commerce

  • Triton

  • VENCO Business Solutions

"We look forward to this new U.S. Secure ATM Database becoming an essential tool that helps independent ATM operators and law enforcement at all levels to better fight the current onslaught of crimes against U.S. retail ATMs," Cramer said. end of article
