Like many industry veterans, Marc became involved in merchant services by chance. He was 30 years old and making great money as a finance manager at the time. But he was working 10 hours a day, six days per week. Realizing he was selling time for money, he was receptive when a friend stopped by his office and shared details about a new and lucrative opportunity.
Here's what he wrote about that experience in his first column as Street SmartsSM author, published in The Green Sheet April 13, 2020:
"With dollars signs in my eyes, I went in the field with him for a day. Shortly after that, I turned in my resignation to embark on this new journey. My wife was four months pregnant, and both of our extended families thought I was absolutely crazy to leave a job making over six figures, especially since we had very little savings in the bank.
"Have you ever made a decision that you knew was right, but the tribe told you it wasn’t possible? My instinct told me that this was where I needed to be. I started at my kitchen table, went to work for the company of my friends, and quit one month later to open my own sales office. I’ve never looked back. I found a business that created recurring revenue, great upfront commissions, provided flexibility. And I could leverage myself through others. I was in heaven."
Marc's successful professional journey was characterized by innovation coupled with a deep understanding of the payments landscape. To give back to the industry he loved, Marc founded Bankcard Life, a resource that provides industry-leading training and resources, plus interactive live sessions to supercharge members' business, residuals and life. Through that project and other work, he established a strong legacy of supporting and mentoring sales professionals navigating the always changing payments sphere.
His partnership with The Green Sheet, whose mission is to empower and connect payments professionals, also exemplified his dedication to fostering a community of knowledgeable and skilled industry experts.
Reflecting on Marc's legacy, Kate Gillespie, president and CEO of The Green Sheet, said, "His contributions have left a lasting impact, and his efforts to educate and uplift others in the field will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him. He will be missed."
In addition, Marc was known for his integrity, passion and generosity. He leaves behind a community of colleagues, friends and, most importantly, family, who despite his professional dedication, were always his top priority. "My heart goes out to Marc's wife, Tracy, and to his children, grandchildren and extended family,"Gillespie said, adding that Marc's guidance, friendship and good humor were unparalleled.
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Marc John Beauchamp on Mon., June 24, 2024, at noon, at Woodlands Church Chapel, 1 Fellowship Drive., The Woodlands, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Glioblastoma Foundation.
"I’ve made too many mistakes to count, but over the years, I think I’ve been able to learn from these mistakes and come out the other side a better man," he wrote in The Green Sheet magazine.
"Thank you, Marc, for leading by example and helping so many others grow along with you," Gillespie said.
