ETA details concerns about B2B surcharging

The five concerns Perryn Holtrop, CEO of PayNation and ETA B2B Committee chair, detailed for the association's June 28, 2024, issue of Transaction Trends are are strained relationships, reduced competitiveness, compliance with state laws, hampered cash flow, and complicated reconciliation.

Credit-building products' questionable benefits

The 2024 Credit Builder Study by WalletHub revealed a concerning trend in credit-building products amid rising household debt and delinquencies. Many consumers are turning to non-traditional options to boost their credit scores, yet WalletHub's evaluation of 22 popular products exposes dubious practices.

According to WalletHub, approximately 27 percent of these products do not offer a usable loan or line of credit, despite claiming to build credit. Additionally, 23 percent fail to report negative credit behaviors to bureaus, while 18 percent allow manipulation of negative data. Another 27 percent artificially enhance credit scores by reporting inflated credit limits.

WalletHub warned that such products mislead consumers by not reflecting genuine credit risk, adding that the situation jeopardizes lenders and consumers alike, necessitating regulatory intervention to protect financial integrity.

The study did, however, highlight several top performers: the Self Credit Builder Account, Digital Federal Credit Union Credit Builder Loan, Alltru Credit Union Credit Builder Loan, Sunrise Banks Credit Builder Loan, USAlliance Credit Builder Loan, and Cheese Credit Builder.
