An analysis released Dec. 14, 2011, by the Consumers Union stated protections commonly extended to credit card and debit card users may not apply to users of smart devices when their devices are lost or stolen, when billing errors occur or when purchased items are returned. The Green Sheet noted with interest that the distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection services company Prolexic Technologies S.A. assured anxious Santa petitioners it mitigated a "significant attack last week that targeted the website of Santa Claus." The company said it was able to fight off a "massive Layer 3 attack" on the jolly elf's site.
Prolexic said the busy Mr. Claus has since traveled to its headquarters in Hollywood, Fla., to sign a contract for 24/7 DDoS monitoring.
"What kind of person would want to take down my site and ruin Christmas?" a despondent Santa asked rhetorically in the Prolexic press release. He speculated the attack may have been the work of The Grinch or, perhaps, "slacker elves" fired earlier in the year.
"I'm glad this incident is over so we can refocus on all the good things about this time of year," the old man, who seemed out of place dressed entirely in fur in the Florida sun, said.
The Green Sheet Inc. is now a proud affiliate of Bankcard Life, a premier community that provides industry-leading training and resources for payment professionals. Click here for more information.
