Letter From the Editors:
The lead article for this issue is the second, and final, segment of our "How to keep tabs on reps, merchants" series. The article contains further insights shared by The Green Sheet Advisory Board members in response to a number of questions we posed about recent Federal Trade Commission actions against payment companies.
Participants in this series shared best practices for ensuring that a strong code of ethics prevails among their partners and clients, and their words are heartening. We are honored to have such exemplary business people on our advisory board and want to thank all those who participated in this series. We appreciate that they took time out from their packed schedules to share their expertise for the benefit of our readers. If you missed the first installment, please see "How to keep tabs on reps, merchants – Part 1," The Green Sheet, Sept. 9, 2013, issue 13:09:01.
Our contributing writers addressed a number of salient topics for this issue. These include an exploration of the rationale for and possible repercussions of Visa's new third-party registration fees, a discussion of why it is important to tackle risk vectors to improve portfolio performance, five basic guidelines for successful interpersonal communication, and an examination of common myths about change and how to prevent them from holding you back in business. For those who like to sink their teeth into technology, this edition also includes tips on how to evaluate payment gateway performance.
You will probably notice that we eliminated the News section of Industry Update, opting instead to place all the news we have room to print into our regular News section. (The rest of Industry Update remains the same.) News stories include reports on how to stay in the acquiring game, a new ATM payments hub initiative, the U.K.'s Universal Credit program, a bitcoin kiosk, and an innovation in hands-free mobile payments.
These stories, along with additional news we don't have room to print, are also posted online under Breaking Industry News on our home page. Also herein, of course, are our usual departments and special features.
