Web security services designed for SMBs
Security and compliance provider ControlScan Inc. has partnered with Incapsula Inc., an Imperva company providing cloud-based website security services, to create a suite of web security services designed for small and midsized businesses (SMBs).
The 2014 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report confirmed that 35 percent of data breaches in 2013 occurred on the Internet. Incapsula researchers noted that 22 percent of malicious bot activity can be attributed to "impersonator bots" that mimic human behavior, making them more difficult to detect and capable of bypassing many security systems.
Shield and turbocharger for SMBs
SMBs are especially susceptible to hackers, as they frequently lack updated, secure and compliant technologies needed to combat fraud. Jyothish Varma, ControlScan's senior director of security product strategy, describes the enhanced and simplified Web Security Services as "a shield and a turbocharger" for small business owners that combines a Web Application Firewall, DDoS protection and content distribution capabilities.
ControlScan noted that its Web Security Services enhance and simplify online compliance, as follows:
- An enterprise-grade, Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS)-certified web application firewall identifies and blocks internet bots and other malicious and unwanted site visitors.
- A robust distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection technology operates at network, protocol and application levels to prevent site lags and downtime in the face of DDoS attacks.
- A global content distribution network improves site performance while making more efficient use of bandwidth.
The company also noted that its team of security experts implement, maintain and monitor ControlScan Web Security Services to protect sensitive data, including payment information, patient information, end-user credentials and contact information, that routinely travels across the Internet.
ControlScan additionally assists with PCI and governmental compliance requirements; vulnerability detection and risk mitigation; and POS, e-commerce and mobile security.
ControlScan's enhanced web security services can be activated with a simple DNS change, eliminating the need for upfront investments in hardware, the company noted.
