Break away for a day
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your business is to forget about your sales goals, deadlines and other day-to-day concerns for a day. Allow yourself to set aside your professional triumphs and problems for this day. Find a beautiful, quiet place, and consider what you truly want in life, what your deepest dreams are, what kind of community you want to be part of and who you really are deep inside.
Perhaps you'll want to take a long walk in a favorite wooded park, sit by a fountain in a local public garden, visit a town within reasonable driving distance that's known for something that intrigues you, or spend time at an art museum or aquarium. It doesn't matter what location you choose as long as it's a place you'll find appealing where you can relax and dream a little bit.
Look inside
Bring a pen and paper or smart device for taking notes, and ask yourself some probing questions. Here are some suggestions. Ask yourself:
- What do I really want deep in my heart?
- Who makes me feel appreciated and loved?
- What activities bring out the best in me?
- What kind of community do I want to build?
- How can I use my strengths to better the world?
If these questions aren't right for you, use them as inspiration to create your own list. When you write or type your answers, let your mind roam, write paragraphs, not short sentences; let your mind digress. And when you're done, take time to consider what you've just written and what you might have learned or perhaps rediscovered about yourself.
Spend the rest of the day restoring yourself and reinforcing your intentions. Brainstorm about what you can do to ensure your daily activities are in sync with your heart's desires. Identify one small thing you can change immediately and create an implementation plan.
After your day away, sleep well, and return to work the next day, refreshed and reminded of what truly matters most to you.
