According to the Health of Cash consumer survey just released by Cardtronics, even the most digitally savvy among us – millennials – like the idea of carrying cash. Millennials, while leading proponents of digital wallets, are more likely than others to use cash for P2P payments, according to the study.

The Electronic Transactions Association, in partnership with The Strawhecker Group, released the upbeat Strategic Leadership Forum (SLF) Special Report on the U.S. Economy. The report helped kick off Payments Analytics Month, which was founded by Strawhecker "to highlight the strategic importance of using analytics to enhance decision making while providing payments industry players with a bevy of powerful data," the consultancy stated.

Sonic Corp. issued a statement confirming a massive security breach of its POS systems. The incident led to a fire sale of millions of credit and debit card account numbers on the Dark Web. "We are working to understand the nature and scope of this issue, as we know how important this is to our guests," the company stated.

Fair Isaac Corp. introduced machine learning algorithms that it said can boost card-not-present fraud (CNP) detection by 30 percent. While widespread EMV chip card implementation will make it extremely difficult for fraudsters to use counterfeit cards at the physical POS, that won't stop them from exploiting vulnerabilities in the CNP arena.

On Oct. 10, 2017, after devastating and deadly fires ravaged several communities in Sonoma and neighboring counties, Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano said, “This is nowhere near over. This is still very dangerous.” This remains the situation as of press time. The Green Sheet Inc. is located in Rohnert Park, immediately south of Santa Rosa. Members of our staff are safe, our homes are intact, but our operations are limited while we deal with power outages and other repercussions of this tragedy.
