Compliant, easy to integrate cannabis POS solutions
Star Micronics, a leading manufacturer of fixed and mobile POS solutions and customer engagement technologies, launched a line of POS hardware tailored for cannabis dispensaries. Designed to help dispensary owners and operators meet compliance and regulatory requirements, the solutions can also improve the customer experience, the company stated.
In addition to their sleek profiles and multiple connectivity options, the products can adapt to a range of dispensary environments and are backed by a dedicated support team and warranty. Products with properly marked labels that meet legal requirements can help cannabis merchants achieve and maintain compliance.
Following are additional features the company identified:
- Compliant receipts: High-speed, cannabis industry compliant thermal receipt printers issue proof of legal purchase and required transaction details. The TSP143III supports WLAN, LAN, Bluetooth and USB interfaces and includes a web configuration page. The TSP654II can print up to 60 receipts per minute and includes an auto-cutter and drop-in paper loading. The printers support multiple connectivity options and are compatible with Android, iOS and Windows systems.
- Secure cash drawers: The CD-3 1616 Tradition Cash Drawer is reliable, cost-effective and built for the cash-intensive cannabis industry. The full-sized cash drawer accommodates high volume cash flow and comes with an optional under the counter mounting bracket.
- Specialized scales: Star Micronics mG-S322 scale, part of the company's mCollection is NTEP-certified, making it legal for trade in the United States, with Class II Accuracy for the cannabis industry. The adaptable solution connects via BLE, USB, and serial ports and is compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows POS systems.
- Industry-specific label printers: Printers are designed for printing regulation labels, store displays and online orders.
- Compact printers: The mCollection's mC-Print3 is a 3-inch POS printer with front-loading paper and multiple connectivity options, including USB, Lightning, Bluetooth, LAN, and Star's cloud printing services CloudPRNT/WebPRNT. The printer's hub supports up to three peripherals.

Star Micronics cannabis hardware is seamlessly integrated with leading cannabis POS solution providers, Moriarty stated. She offered the following examples:
- IndicaOnline: This marijuana POS and delivery app for dispensaries provides a suite of business management tools designed to help cannabis dispensaries streamline operations such as app inventory, sales, staff management, ecommerce and pricing. Steven Lynn, director of marketing at IndicaOnline, said the Star Micronics mG-S322 scale was easy to integrate and deploy. Its support of iOS, Android, and Windows environments makes it "a hassle-free way for our dispensary clients to precisely weigh and price their inventory," he stated.
- Cova POS: Cova cannabis retail POS is designed to help cannabis retailers simplify compliance. The technology suite includes touch-screen menus, express checkout and mobile reporting dashboards. Gary Cohen, CEO at Cova, praised the mC-Print3 thermal printer. The product's sleek design and multiple connectivity options, combined with Star's hardware performance and reputation for great support, align perfectly with Cova's values and robust solutions, he said.
