Atmosphere TV is a video streaming service that provides curated content to businesses on original, audio-optional TV channels. Describing its channels as refreshing alternatives to linear cable television, the company said its TV programming is designed to enliven a range of merchant environments, from retail stores and restaurants to hotels, bars and self-service venues.
Mike Kelly, director of distribution partnerships at Atmosphere TV, pointed out that the company's founders wanted to provide businesses with better viewing options for their customers. "Closed-captioned talking heads, news and reality TV on mute are no way to watch TV at a business," he said. "Atmosphere TV set out to create a new class of TV programming with an audio-optional streaming TV platform."
Kelly added that businesses can use Atmosphere's platform to run their own marketing promotions and house ads by using a simple digital signage feature, which he noted is something that live TV programming doesn't offer. Merchants can choose from over 50 channels, all designed to keep their customers sitting, eating, drinking and spending more money.
Business-first platform
Kelly further noted that Atmosphere's platform is built for businesses, which he observed are cutting cable subscriptions. "We've built a channel for every mood," he said. "Whether you're a Vermont sports bar or California laundromat, we have a solution for your business. Our channels include CHIVE TV, Red Bull TV, America's Funniest Home Videos and BeachBumTV, and are designed to reach audiences of all kinds, without negativity, talking heads or politics."
Atmosphere TV channels offer rich, curated content for a wide range of vertical industries, Kelly noted, including bars, restaurants, health clubs and spas, medical waiting rooms, hair and nail salons, hotel lobbies, airports, casinos, golf courses, cannabis and CBD dispensaries and stores, and laundromats. "We fill a gap in the market at the cross section of content and streaming hardware technology," Kelly said. "We use a high-quality Apple TV hardware platform and with hundreds of thousands of hours in our content library, derived from many different sources."
Partner revenue opportunities
Kelly went on to say that Atmosphere TV has built a profitable commission structure that offers recurring revenue options to ISOs and merchant level salespeople (MLSs) who place the free service at their customers' locations. Merchants appreciate the service and ISOs and MLSs can build rapport with business owners and managers, as the service has been shown to boost per-check average tickets at a variety of environments, he added.
Enhancing environments with high-quality video content is a timely solution for merchants as they reopen after the lengthy business shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly noted. As customers flock back to retail and hospitality environments, operators will want to show their customers the improvements they have made to their venues. Our solution can help them do that and more, he stated.
Currently working with more than 15,000 businesses worldwide, Atmosphere TV has been growing exponentially—even during the pandemic when the company offered operators of all types a free service to make customers smile, Kelly stated. Participating merchants are enjoying the experience, and some have completely cut their cable bills, saving thousands a year on TV that is not essential to their business, he added.
