Readers Speak: Navigating hybrid work environments
Felice B. Ekelman, an employment lawyer and principal of Jackson Lewis P.C., and Julie P. Kantor, a business psychologist and executive coach, reached out to let us know about their new book, Thrive with a Hybrid Workplace: Step-by Step Guidance from the Experts, which details how organizations can stay strong and goal-oriented in the hybrid remote/physical office world.

Thrive with a Hybrid Workplace, published this year by Rowman & Littlefield, provides a way forward to understand the changing world of work, the authors noted. It is divided into four sections: 1. Planning and Preparing a Hybrid Work Policy; 2. The 7 C’s of leadership; 3. Making Hybrid Work; and 4. Guardrails for Success in Hybrid Work.
Offering encouragement and advice, the book covers topics from strategic to operational, and from legal to tactical. Specific topics explored include the role of intentionality in building a thriving hybrid workplace; two workplaces, one culture: bridging the gap between remote and office; principles of leadership; how to improve collaboration between workers in different locations; addressing ESG in a hybrid workplace; four steps to boosting productivity; setting boundaries when work and home are synonymous; anticipating and preventing proximity bias; ins and outs of fair compensation for hybrid organizations and employees; and coaching and mentoring challenges and tips from afar.
“Our goal is to provide organizations, leaders, and employees with the tools to navigate the challenges that come from working virtually some, or all, of the time," the authors stated. "It is very possible to develop a cohesive team, generate and sustain camaraderies, and accomplish business objectives and growth.”
