Rain Technology, a company dedicated to directional display innovation, said it launched its groundbreaking POS Switchable Privacy solution. Designed to protect customers from visual hackers, this cutting-edge technology also enhances branding opportunities for retailers, the company stated.
The growing use of POS terminals has brought privacy concerns to the forefront, Rain Technology noted, explaining that transactions are vulnerable to visual hacking, from PIN entry to tipping screens.
Rain Technology's solution embeds a proprietary liquid crystal layer into POS display panels, electronically controlling the viewing angle. During private moments, such as payment entry, the screen restricts visibility to the user; at other times, it transitions to a wide angle, displaying promotional content to peripheral viewers.
“This innovation is a win-win for retailers and customers,” said Rain Technology CEO Robert Ramsey, Ph.D. “Consumers gain privacy and security, while retailers can leverage the display for branding and promotions.”
The technology is now available in POS terminals through payment solutions manufacturer Datecs. In addition, Rain Technology reduced pricing for standard POS display sizes to make this innovation accessible to more businesses.
Beyond retail, Rain Technology pointed out, the technology offers applications in healthcare, ensuring HIPAA compliance by protecting patient data on displays. The dual-purpose solution promotes both security and marketing, serving industries such as restaurants, hotels, transit, and theme parks, the company added.
