As one of the original mobile commerce platforms, ROAM Data Inc., an Ingenico company, said it continues to innovate through the development of new products that incorporate advanced security features. With the launch of its new turnkey system, ROAMpay X4, merchants can extend traditional POS systems by converting tablets and smartphones into mobile POS devices.
"Mobile point of sale is a whole lot more than plugging a dongle into a mobile phone and enabling card acceptance," said Ken Paull, Chief Executive Officer of ROAM. "It's become a channel for merchants and merchant-facing organizations to reinvent the point of sale experience and better engage with their customers."
According to ROAM, the new application integrates easily with existing back-end systems enabling merchants to process payments via Android- and iOS-based smartphones and tablets. A white-label program provides custom-branding capability at the POS.
And software developers can create custom mobile applications utilizing ROAMpay API, an application programming interface designed to leverage all the functions of ROAMpay X4.
In the event of a wireless connectivity issue or POS service interruption, ROAMpay X4 can process transactions offline as well, the company said.
Merchants can also configure, photograph, and manage inventory; capture customer email addresses and track previous purchases for personalizing the customer experience; and add multiple languages and currencies for expanding sales to customers globally.
As with previous products, ROAMpay X4 offers advanced security features including end-to-end data encryption and PIN-based authentication.
Being an enterprise-ready system means that it can be configured to meet the needs of merchants of all sizes. In addition to processing cash and credit card transactions, the app also supports voids, refunds, sales tax and tips.
"While this market is evolving at a very rapid pace, we've listened closely to our customers to understand their needs and to identify where the market is headed," said Bill Pittman, Senior Vice President of Product Management at ROAM.
"Our tens of thousands of customers have already started migrating to this app, and the feedback we've been receiving thus far has been tremendous."
