Checkmate and Microsoft have agreed to co-develop Windows CE-based
platforms for the retail industry. If you’re unfamiliar with “CE,”
it is a componentized modular real-time operating system, designed for
32-bit embedded systems. Its modular design allows it to be customized for
a variety of non-traditional computing platforms such as personal data
assistants, palmtop computers, and cable set-top boxes. In layman’s
terms, it’s a “mini version” housed on a device as small as your
hand.
“We are excited that IVI Checkmate will be working with us on creating
Windows CE-based platforms for the retail industry,” said Tony
Barbagallo, group product manager, Productivity Appliance Division,
Microsoft Corp. “This development agreement demonstrates that Windows CE
has gained acceptance in the retail industry and provides viable solutions
for this industry.”
IVI Checkmate is the third largest electronic transaction solutions
