The
Chase Manhattan Bank recently implemented its High Volume Enterprise Check
Archive, with the help of Check Solutions Company. Check Solutions is a
developer of check and image processing technologies and services for the
financial industry.
Using
Check Solutions’ Check Image Enterprise Archive (CIEA) System, Chase is
replacing conventional microfilm storage with electronic images, which
will allow information to be easily and quickly accessed within Chase, as
well as by bank customers on the Web.
Chase
has been capturing and loading 100% of its Southwest check volume images
into its enterprise archive since March of last year and implemented
enterprise check archive in the Northeast in October of 1999. The company
is in the process of ramping up to full image archive. Average daily
volumes for all sites exceed 10 million items, with peak days approaching
12 million items.
“Businesses
and individuals continue to look to their bank as a safekeeper of their
financial information,” said Randy McClain, SVP of Check Solutions.
“If a customer needs to reproduce financial records, their expectation
is that their bank will deliver this information. With the current
e-explosion fueled by the Internet, everyone has now come to expect
information to be delivered electronically. Chase has positioned itself to
do just that.”
The
storage of images adds capabilities beyond just being able to replace
microfilm.
Chase
can now recreate and electronically deliver checking account statements,
research requests, exception processing, return item processing, and
presentment of items to other banks. The company reports that soon branch
and customer service representatives will be able to provide customers
with immediate copies of their checks and/or statements by printing them
on the spot or sending them via e-mail.
