The
Benefits of Setting Goals and Objectives

John
T. Chambers, President and CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc., recently said in an
interview published in Business Week that we are in a second Industrial
Revolution, and that it will change every aspect of people’s lives. Companies
that thrive will welcome change. He continues to say that future companies will
not be just “brick-and-mortar,” but that “click-and-mortar” will become
a principal means of survival.
Goals,
changes, and objectives are necessary to meet today’s challenges and
opportunities in the global marketplace. As part of your action plan in your
business environment, set goals. Make them realistic. Record them. Be sure to
allow yourself some options if the need to change course arises. You will find
that you will be more motivated, interested in the big picture, your job
satisfaction will be obvious to your co-workers, and most importantly to your
customers. Consider incorporating some of the subjects below into your life. Be
sure:
• To listen to the customer
• To ask questions
• To recognize people’s behavior styles
• To overcome customer objections
• To close
• To look and perform professionally
• To follow-up
Normally
there are two types of people in business–those who make things happen and
those who wonder what happened. Prepare for the future. Set your goals and
objectives today.
