Feeling Overwhelmed?
When you leave the office at the end of the day, have you accomplished the goals you set out to complete? If you haven't, does that leave you feeling disappointed in yourself? If your disappointment affects your motivation, you may fall even farther behind on your task list, which can leave you feeling overwhelmed.
When you are feeling like you just can't keep up, let alone progress, take a step back and then take a step forward, one step at a time. The fact that you still have items pending on your task list or goals that you've not met doesn't mean you are a failure or lack time management skills. You may just need to reexamine your goals and your perception of success.
Any task or goal can seem overwhelming when you consider it as a single, humongous endeavor. For example, the idea of successfully closing a deal with a multi-location car dealer might be enough to paralyze you. However, finding the decision maker at the multi-location car dealer is possible. Calling that person is easily accomplished. Setting up an appointment is a task you can successfully complete. You are capable of completing each of these small steps and each of these steps gets you closer to the ultimate goal, the successful close.
Intellectually, you know that sales is a process, not an event. It takes eight calls to successfully close a sale. However, emotionally and subconsciously you may still believe that you can get the sale after one call. If you change your philosophy and you view each step as a goal, you will remain motivated and productive.
Don't rush it, divide the process into manageable pieces and recognize your success each step of the way.
