NCR and QVS Unite
NCR Corporation has formed
an agreement with QVS, Inc., a manufacturer/distributor of computer
connectivity products, to offer QConnect for Microsoft Windows CE.
Qconnect is a software solution that allows applications running on
IBM’s 4690 proprietary operating system to run on NCR’s family of open
POS terminals.
QConnect basically “wraps” the proprietary software
package, freeing the application to run on an open NCR POS terminal. The
performance of these applications can be enhanced with the addition of new
peripherals such as NCR’s DynaKey cashier device and interface. The use
of Windows CE also helps to contain costs by reducing the amount of memory
required and eliminating the need for a disk.
“The POS industry is a fast-growing market that demands
cost-effective solutions that take into consideration a company’s
current IT infrastructure,” says Keith White, director of marketing for
the Embedded Appliance and Platforms Group at Microsoft Corporation.
“QConnect makes installation of new, open POS terminals
transparent to existing applications,” said Tracy Flynn, NCR vice
president of product and solution marketing. “It eliminates all of the
disruption and much of the cost associated with installing a completely
new POS solution.” Flynn continued, “QConnect helps minimize the cost
of upgrading a legacy system by protecting software investments, while
enabling retailers to use the most advanced hardware.”
NCR Corporation provides relationship technology
solutions to customers worldwide in the retail, financial, communications,
manufacturing, travel and transportation, and insurance markets. NCR’s

applications, store automation and automated teller machines. More
