More Kudos for eGems
Gemteq Software, Inc., has
received another positive review for their eGems Collector Pro 1.0
product. In issue 01:02:01 we reported that the product received a
four-star rating from PC Magazine and was also a finalist for a Codie
Award. Now the eGems software won a “highly recommended” rating by the
esteemed Library Journal.
eGems Collector Pro is a research assistant that sits on
your PC desktop waiting for information gems-text, images, graphs, or Web
links-to be dropped into its database. Users simply drag and drop research
“gems” from electronic sources, simultaneously organizing the gems
into personal digital libraries, while automatically keeping source data
intact.
The review, written by Holly Stec Dankert, Reference and
Instruction, DePaul University, states, “eGems can be described as a
‘virtual filing cabinet’ for collecting and accessing the good stuff
you find in cyberspace that is not easily locatable any other way except
perhaps through clunky bookmarks.” The review continues, “The
application is quick and easy to install; the tutorial, helpful and
clear.”
Dankert concludes, “The Bottom Line: eGems is a
creative and easy-to-use information manager that keeps track of nuggets
of information-pictures, tables, quotes, articles-that users can easily
retrieve to insert into reports or papers, while creating the
bibliographic records at the same time. Highly recommended for libraries
wanting to offer staff and users the ability to enhance their work, study,
or research habits on their desktops.”
eGems retails for $59.95. However, The
Green Sheet provides eGems free of charge to our subscribers. If you
don’t have your copy yet, go to www.greensheet.com
