Restaurant POS Taking To The Airways
You may not be aware that both International Verifact, Inc., and
VeriFone, Inc., have recently designed specialized terminals for the
restaurant market, called the Spirit and Folio. In talking with
companies selling POS equipment, we were unable to find anyone with
any experience with either of these devices, although we believe that
both manufacturers have placed equipment.
While it is always nearly impossible to get retailers to do
anything different at the point-of-sale, the best bet is to make the
transaction faster or easier.
Well, this is the plan of two companies that think they have a
better approach for the restaurant world. Omega Digital Data, Inc.,
and Hypercom, Inc. are each releasing a POS terminal which utilizes
radio-frequency technology to speed up the transactions at the
restaurant table.
The Omega device, called the "Aerial," is currently available from
Omega, but is awaiting certification by many of the nation's
processors. The Hypercom device will be available during the first
quarter of 1997.
Omega is based in the U.S. in Atlanta, GA, and may be reached at
1-770-998-5730. Hypercom is based in Phoenix, AZ, and can be reached
at 1-800-577-5501.
