The Truth About Transaction Growth
Check transactions have grown almost 15 billion transactions over
the last nine years, while debit transactions have grown 7.7 billion
and credit card transactions have grown 5.2 billion.
While check transactions have out grown debit two to one and
credit nearly three to one over this period, the most regularly
reported information is that credit transactions have grown 165%
while debit transactions have grown 188%.
While in
percentage terms these numbers are correct, the absolute numbers are
generally not stated and really tell us more about the marketplace,
since growth percentages are always significant when you are first
starting to grow.
It is also always interesting, following the percentage growth
path yet a little further, to note that debit cards issued have grown
only 42% over the last nine years.1
