IRS Seizes TeleServices
Sources at the IRS have confirmed reports that TeleServices of
America, San Diego, California had their assets seized by the IRS on
March 6. Apparently the Check Guarantee and Collection/Recovery
agency was in arrears of past due taxes and had liens placed on the
business dating back to at least June of 1995 for amounts of at least
$70,744.
Chris Conley of the IRS Public Affairs Office verified that
TeleServices was seized by the Federal Government and they took
possession of the property at 9663 Tierra Grande, Suite 204. Conley
stated, "This is usually the last step a business endures after
trying to work out a payment plan."
Typically, after the IRS seizes any real or personal property to
satisfy a tax bill, they intend to sell the property. TeleServices
may buy back the property if they pay the tax due, interest,
penalties, and the expenses of the seizure but, this is unlikely
since they were unable to satisfy the past due taxes before the
seizure.
The unfortunate part for TeleServices' merchants is the fact that
EVERYTHING was seized, including bad checks submitted to TeleServices
for collection.
