On The Road With ATMs
In the April 7 Green Sheet we gave you some background on
ATMs as well as considered the future direction of these popular
devices, based on other payment options which are developing in the
marketplace.
This story has yet a different angle on ATMs, as it reports on
both the growth of mobile ATMs, and reflects upon the opportunity to
make money selling such devices, or of you being an operator of
special events equipment.
Either way, we thought you would find this story about WinTech
International interesting. WinTech supplies a full line of
stationary and mobile ATMs from a variety of manufacturers including
Money Tree, Triton, Diebold, and Siemens/Nixdorf.

You're probably most familiar with the "bread and butter" units.
These are the inexpensive, stationary ATMs which are suited for the
steady, moderate volume retail stores.
But, what about the more than 30,000 special events scheduled
nationwide this year? WinTech cites statistics that state that ATMs
capture 1-2 percent of an event. For carnivals, swap meets,
festivals, and ball games the mobile ATM is perfect because it
doesn't need a permanent location and can be operated without
utilities. The mobile ATM can have it's own power and cellular
communications link.
WinTech's mobile line includes trailers from four feet long to
buses of 20 feet. They come with a variety of options including
cellular links, generators, video surveillance, security, temperature
control, and satellite communications. Imagine a trailer sitting in
the middle of nowhere, with no utilities, dispensing cash and
products. The unit can also have sponsored panel advertising and
sponsored ATM screen advertising.
How does a mobile ATM work? Well, glad you asked.
The vehicle is stored without any cash. When needed for a special
event, it is driven to the special event, again without cash. An
armored car pulls up just before the event opens and loads the cash.
An operator throws the switches and the ATM is ready to dispense cash
AND tickets, phone cards, coupons, etc. At the end of the event, the
armored truck returns to unload any remaining cash and the driver
returns the vehicle to storage.
Mobile ATMs include:
Portable ATM: Designed primarily for the investor that
wants to be "lean & mean" and have a real "money machine." The
single ATM is anchored to a secure trailer measuring 54" by 54". This
option is attractive to many businesses due to the low initial
investment and the fact that another vehicle is not needed to
retrieve the driver after the trailer is towed to the event. WinTech
can even be employed to operate it for you. The unit is designed for
small to medium events. Standard equipment includes air conditioning
and security package, and a cellular communications package can be
added. PRICE: $40,000 - $58,846.
Trailer ATM: This larger unit (16ft x 7ft) is designed for
more populous events. It can have one or two ATMs and comes with air
conditioning, security system, 24-hour battery backup, and cellular
communications package. 110v generator and video surveillance package
can be added on. The ATMs are serviced from inside the trailer for
privacy. PRICE: $58,895 - $97,697.
Cargo Van ATM: This van can have one or two ATMs and is
designed for high-profile companies or banks. It has space for
marketing panels and the chassis is a rugged Dodge RAM with a 5.2L
V-8 Magnum engine. Other standard features include: customized
interior and exterior, security system, and enhanced cellular
capabilities. Optional equipment includes generator and video
surveillance packages. PRICE: $79,005- $116,697.
Bus ATM: With an overall length of 20 feet, this unit
offers the most powerful marketing tool. Standard equipment includes
customized interior and exterior, security system, enhanced cellular
communications, roof mounted air conditioner and one or two ATMs.
PRICE: $118,895- $156,595.
Well, that covers the "hardware," and WinTech's services are
equally interesting, so you should contact them to find out all the
arrangements for transportation, maintenance, debit links, and
advertising that they already have in place, and at very competitive
rates.
