A Card in Hand
Most of us have probably heard the old sales joke, "I don't have
any business cards (brochures) with me, but I'll be happy to go back
to the office and throw one away for you," meaning that old timers
thought that they had already lost the deal when they were asked to
leave behind a business card or brochure.
Well here's a tip for cold calls with a different twist-have
something, anything in hand to give the receptionist or
greeter. Holding a business card or brochure accomplishes three
things: First, it keeps your hands busy while talking to the greeter.
Second, it may make the receptionist curious and thus more attentive.
Finally, when you hand it to over and he takes it, the invested
energy may make him feel responsible to make certain your card or
brochure is acted upon.
