WWW.Pay by Check?.com
You're surfing the web. chatting on AOL, looking at things to buy,
checking out the Web stores, when there it is, the item you've been
wanting for years! The limited collectors' edition of the Green
Hornet comic book, Issue 1, Volume III, June 1952, and it's in
mint condition! It's the "Big Green One," you need it, you want it,
and you're going to buy it.
You quickly click to the purchase box, feeling as if you will not
get there fast enough. Finally the purchase screen appears, you
verify your desired purchase, enter your name, shipping address, and
phone number. The "many" forms of payment screen pops up, your
choices are Ecash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and
Discover/Bravo Card (sorry no COD's). Well hello? What about checks?
Can you pay with a check? Obviously not and unfortunately for you,
your one and only card, like many Americans, is max'd. Oh no, your
chance to own the "Big Green One" is gone!
As sad as it is, it may be too late for the "Big Green One" to be
yours. "If this web store had utilized the new ChecksByNet
product, you could have made the purchase with your personal check
just as quickly as by credit or ecash. The Web store would have had
your check in hand seconds later and it would be guaranteed," says
Bob Ficarra, CrossCheck's Vice President of Product Planning and
Development, and the individual who has spent over a year breathing
life into ChecksByNet. So goes the story of the first truly
Web-based check system recently announced by CrossCheck, Inc., of
Northern California. According to Ficarra, ChecksByNet is, "The
first and only originally designed Web system for the future of
guaranteed cyber payments."
CrossCheck's Internet check authorization is unique. When a
customer enters a Web store and wishes to purchase an item, she will
navigate to the purchase screen which will include payment by check.
The programming design is self supporting and will overlay any
existing Web store design or wallet product. In fact, other than the
security flag on the bottom of the PC screen, the consumer won't be
aware of interfacing with any site other than the one on which they
are shopping.
Once the consumer chooses the check payment option, they will go
directly to CrossCheck's Authorization Center, this transition is
completely invisible to the consumer. They will be asked a few
questions and will fill out a check on the screen. The information
will download to CrossCheck for authorization and seconds later the
purchase will be approved. The customer will continue their order on
the Web page or at the Cyber Store. Minutes later, or on demand, the
check will be recalled from CrossCheck by the Cyber merchant and
printed at the merchant's site, authorized and guaranteed.
According to Ficarra, "In the most basic terms, the customer talks
via computer to the merchant, the merchant forwards the call to
CrossCheck mid-session, and CrossCheck approves the purchase and
responds to both merchant and customer."
What about security? CrossCheck's secured Web server is safer than
99.5% of all US Web sites and employs 1024 bit SSL encryption, the
highest level of security available.
