ICE Review
As we went to press, the tradeshow scene was very busy. The ETA
show was just starting and the ICE was just wrapping up.
ICE is the Internet Commerce Expo. We sent our reporters to check
out this conference which serves the Internet, intranet, and extranet
arenas. The Expo included 150 exhibitors and 100 educational
conference sessions. Additionally, there were seven key note speeches
delivered by high profile industry executives from some of the
industry's traditional favorites including Open Market, Netscape, Sun
Microsystems, Microsoft, and IBM. All shared their perspectives on
the Internet/Electronic commerce issues of the day.
Special Events included the Internet Town Meeting with panelists
from Lotus, Intel, Visa, IBM, and Hewlett Packard. There was also an
Electronic Commerce Executive Roundtable which included insight from
senior executives from CommerceNet, First Virtual Holdings, Lucent
Technologies, and Microsoft, among others.
The most heavily visited booth was the CrossCheck ChecksByNet(tm)
debut, a unique internet solution that allows merchants to accept
checks over the World Wide Web. The interactive, animated, and
audio-enabled demo wowed the show attendees. According to Bob
Ficarra, VP PP&D, "They were lined up 4-deep the entire three
days."
Best of show for marketing, sales, and customer service went to
iCat, a Seattle Internet catalog software provider. ICat is an
international organization and works with companies such as UPS,
Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and CyberCash. (A comprehensive list of Best
of Show winners follows).
IBM was in attendance and unveiled a family of Internet commerce
products for small businesses called Net.commerce. The products are
designed to equip small and medium businesses with tools to become
electronic businesses. Net.Commerce is available in 3 packages priced
under $500.
