First USA
Suit
We all get credit card offers
daily and each one seems to be advertising a great rate, especially
if you transfer a balance. One Oregon woman took First USA up on an
offer. She received a card that would pay 0 - 6% interest for six
months and then lock in at 12.99%
According to her attorney,
after the six months her rate did increase to 12.99%. But, a few
months after that, it was up to 21.99%. So she has filed suit asking
for First USA to stop the practice. If they don't, she will ask for
damages and seek class-action certification, her lawyer said.
George McCane, a First USA
spokesperson was quoted, "We strongly believe this lawsuit is
entirely without merit."
You may remember that in June
First USA was purchased by Banc One, which made Banc One the nation's
third largest credit card organization.
