Plan for
Opportunity
Have you ever kicked yourself because you
missed a great opportunity? Sure, we all have because deep down, we
know we didn't miss the opportunity because of someone else's actions
or because we weren't in the right place at the right time. We missed
it because we didn't recognize the opportunity or weren't prepared
for it.
First, what is your definition of
"opportunity"? Is it money falling from the sky? Someone walking up
to you and asking to buy your service? These, my friend, are
fantasies, not opportunities. Sure they could happen, but it's not
likely. What is likely is that you will get the sales and earn more
money if you know how to recognize opportunities and are prepared for
them.
Opportunities don't arise from being in the
right place at the right time. Yes, sometimes there are fortuitous
circumstances that nudge us toward an opportunity, but nothing can
assure you recognize and take advantage of an opportunity like
preparation.
That's because luck doesn't really exist,
preparation does. Some people may say, "She's really lucky.
Everything falls into place for her." Actually, what she probably is,
is prepared. She planned for the good fortune, anticipated it,
learned how to recognize it, and most importunately, planned what to
do when it did happen.
Think of the opportunity you want: maybe a
promotion or a close on a big account. Then, prepare for it! What
will you do to make it happen? What will you say? How will you be
certain to recognize it?
