Printer
Service with a Twist
Epson America, Inc., is offering
enhancements to its POS service programs. The two new programs are
"Spare in the Air," which provides overnight shipment and replacement
printers and "Virtual On-Site," which places consigned spares at
merchant locations.
Spare in the Air
With "Spare in the Air," the merchant calls
a hotline and requests a replacement printer be sent overnight. When
the spare arrives, the merchant mails back the faulty piece with a
prepaid label, using a toll-free number for courier pickup. According
to Dick Bulot, VP service and support, "Preliminary research
indicates that customers who subscribe to this program can save
approximately 65 percent compared to the cost of on-site
service."
There is a two-year commitment and a flat
per unit rate. Merchants must sign up within 90 days of purchase and
the program is available for the following pieces:
TM-U200, TM-U295, TM-U325, TM-U375, TM-U590,
TM-U950, TM-H5000, and TM-T88.
Merchants should expect to pay about $66 for
the first two years. Weekends and holidays are not
included.
Virtual On-Site
The "Virtual On-Site" replacement program is
designed to cost 33 percent less than typical on-site service
programs. This program works similarly to "Spare in the Air," except
the extra terminal is already on the premises. Merchants swap the
terminals immediately and mail the faulty piece back to Epson via a
free courier and prepaid shipping. The program is tailored to
merchants' needs so pricing varies. As with "Spare in the Air,"
merchants must sign up within 90 days of purchase.
