Year 2000 an
"Act of God"?
Due to concerns about potential
litigation, as well as the numerous other concerns of computer
programmers and users, the Nevada Legislature passed a law defining
the software related problems of accounting for the years 2000 and
beyond as an "Act of God."
Other states are also
considering similar actions, which seems to be an interesting
reaction to a problem. It is the software equivalent of not doing
today what can be put off until tomorrow. With this thinking, why not
ship Alpha versions of products, rather than Beta testing? If you
can't get it right in two or three years, call it an Act of
God.
