Abracadabra
Schlumberger's
MagIC payment terminals can now process multiple applications
including Visa Cash and Mastercard/Mondex, on a single, interoperable
terminal.
MagIC terminals are
equipped with an Application Manager, which allows a variety of
applications, including credit, debit, loyalty, and other smart card
applications, to operate securely on the same POS terminal. The
Application Manager also allows the MagIC 3000 to connect with cash
registersósuch as Sharp, Casio, and IBMóthrough the use
of libraries. Its 4"x16" screen display and oversized buttons have
the look and feel of a bank ATM, providing simple and rapid
interaction with customers.
Xavier Chanay, general
manager, Bank, Retail & Health, Schlumberger Smart Cards &
Systems said, "Anticipated merchant demand for terminals that accept
both Visa Cash and MasterCard/Mondex smart cards, as well as
conventional credit and debit cards, requires secure
interoperability."
The MagIC 3000 terminals
are part of the New York Smart Card Program, an alliance between
Citibank, Chase Manhattan Bank, MasterCard, and Visa U.S.A. For
information about Schlumberger see the February issue of GSQ: The
Payment Systems Quarterly.
