Lets hear your spin on
BA Merchant Services vs. Unified Merchant Services relative to the
Nations Bank/Bank of America merger. BA Merchant Services Stock
(NYSE:BPI) has fallen below the 50 day and the 200 day moving average
IN AN UP MARKET!
Look forward to your
assessment in the May Issue.

Dear Paul,
I own a medium-sized
company which has been in the bankcard industry for two years and has
just recently entered the ATM industry. Many of my customers do not
have sufficient cash to keep the machine full. Is there a bank or
business that can provide enough cash for ATMs?
Thank You
Bob Miller
P.S. Thank you for
The Green Sheet. It's a super information source.
Bob:
You are correct that
such services do exist. I am sorry to say, however, the only lead
that I can give you is WinTech International. WinTech can be reached
at (888) 984-2580. If you would like to know more about them, check
out issue 97:05:01 on The Green Sheet Web site. It is the first story
titled "On the Road with ATMs." At last contact they provided vault
services or could arrange them. If this does not meet your
geographics, perhaps they can give you a lead.

What is an
ISO?
Thank you,
Chris
Chris:
The term can refer to
many different things of course, but when you see it in The Green
Sheet it means an Independent Sales Organization or agent. In some
industries these are called VARs, "Value Added Resellers" or
Manufacturers Reps. These sales professional are individual sales
people and sales organizations that sell Visa and MasterCard services
to merchants, along with cash registers, point-of-sale terminals,
paper goods, check services, American Express, Discover, ATM
equipment, debit card connectivity, and much, much more. These ISOs
work for themselves and "Rep" these products and services. They make
money on commissions paid by the organizations or on mark-ups of
equipment they buy in quantity.
In the bankcard
segment of the industry (Visa and MasterCard) these bankcard
associations sometimes use the same ISO term to define any
organization, other than a bank, that provides any resource or
service to a bank member of their associations. With this definition,
First Data Corporation, who has an 80% or better stake in the
marketplace as a bankcard processor (but is not a bank) is considered
an ISO. The Green Sheet's use of the term, however is limited to the
people or companies that are actually "selling." Within the bankcard
associations they often use the terms MSP (Member Service Provider)
or BSP (Bankcard Service Provider) to describe sales types. We have
heard that MasterCard may well adopt the ISO term for general use to
describe sales types.

Brad:
Thank you, I will
contact you. Our current seminar schedule is full, but I will
remember your interest as we do our future planning.
On another note, what
about a story on CheckCare? I have tried to develop a story on your
company in the past, and believe that you are doing some interesting
things that bridge between the traditional Guarantee and
Verification. What do you think?

I'm in the kiosk
business and am trying to find a device that will scan the check and
find the following fields:
1. MICR
2. Signature
3. Read courtesy
amount
4. Proof print the back
of the check. Proof printing is a banking standard that at a minimum
includes:
i) Time stamping the
check
ii) Printing the amount
of the check
iii) Printing merchant
account information
Would appreciate any
help you could give me.

Steven,
I know of a company
that is building equipment that may be on the track you are looking
for. They are Dynamic Systems Group, Inc. (813) 936-8600 or E-mail
cparks@dsgnet.com. The existing equipment (BUC 1000) is too large, I
believe, for your application, but if they have what you need, size
may be fixable.
Please keep us
informed of your progress; it will make a good future story for The
Green Sheet.

Dear Sir,
My name is Larry Lish. I
operate a small business called Cyber-Tek Financial Services and am a
licensee of National Bank Drafting Systems of Fort Worth,
TX.
We specialize in
cost-effective bill payment processes designed to improve companies'
cash flow cycle, streamline accounts receivables, and enable
companies to reallocate valuable resources to more productive areas
of their business. We also offer NSF check recovery services and
"fone chex" which gives merchants the ability to accept checks over
the phone.
I would like to know if
The Greens Sheet has more than one location and how I would go about
getting a listing of these locations. Any help you could give me in
this area would be greatly appreciated. If you would like more
information about our company and how we can be of benefit to your
business, please e-mail me at llish@zebra.net or check out our Web
site at http://home.swebell.net/bmactx. Thank you for your time and I
look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Larry Lish
Larry:
The Green Sheet has
only one location, and that is Rohnert Park, California, north of San
Francisco. We publish The Green Sheet as a bi-weekly
publication in a paper format, and post most of it to our Web site.
We also publish GSQ a magazine which addresses selected issues
in greater depth than we can provide in The Green Sheet
newsletter. We also host "Creating Wealth as an ISO" seminars
around the country.
All of our efforts
are directed at Independent Sales Organizations (Value-Added
Resellers) of retail financial products and services.
