An industry that
previously had 150 members is now down to approximately 50, and
getting smaller.
Honor Technologies and
Star System are planning a merger, which will be final by the middle
of next year. The result will be a company that will serve 3,700
financial institutions, 79 million debit cardholders, 70,000 ATMs,
and 250,000 POS locations in 20 states. Both brands, Honor and Star,
will remain.
Previously, there were
approximately 150 EFT networks in the U.S. but due to mergers and
consolidation, the new company will be one of less than 50
networks.
