To the
Editor:
I have just received a
copy of GSQ and am enjoying the information. However, in reading the
"Payment Method Access" section, I wondered how the term "debit card"
is defined for these statistics.
Does "debit card" imply
off-line signature based point of sale authorization capability,
and/or on-line PIN based authorization capability? I assume that "ATM
card" refers to cards that only access cash machines and have no
point of sale capability.
Thanks in advance for
your reply and keep up the good research--it is very interesting
reading.

Dear
Charlie:
Our survey did
distinguish between ATM and debit cards. This consumer survey was
conducted over the phone, therefore the distinction was determined by
whatever the consumer understood his/her card to be. The data
reported in "Payment Method Access" is the "debit card" data
collected. We did not attempt to determine "on-line" versus
"off-line" transactions.
Thank you for your
positive comments. I'm glad you found it to be interesting. The next
GSQ, which will be published in November, is a report on Merchant
Bankcard Acquirers. I'm sure you will find it equally
interesting.

To

I am sure you have
written articles or done surveys on selecting the right lease company
and making sure it is reputable. Is there a listing of who those
might be? Is there a list of lease companies for ISOs? I have looked
at the Resource Guide and contacted many of those listed. However, I
am concerned about being paid and making sure I choose the right
one.
Can you
help?
Thanks,
Steve
Dear
Steve:
Yes, there are a number
of very fine organizations listed in our Resource Guide, so I will
not re-list their names and numbers since you have them. The list
includes smaller organizations, which can offer a lot of personal
attention, and huge organizations which have serious financial
ability to grow. Ladco Leasing is worth mentioning within the context
that you ask, since they were acquired by PMT, who itself was
acquired by NOVA.

I am confused. Is this
[The Green Sheet ISO mall on-line] available to individual
agent offices of an ISO, such as mine with CSI, or just to the ISO
itself?
Thanks,

Dear
Gerry:
If your upstream
organization doesn't have a problem with you having a Web page, we
sure don't. We only ask of you what we ask of everyone, we must list
the organization through which you process bankcard transactions. If
that is a registered ISO, then that is fine with us.
