American National Bank of DeKalb County (ANB) has been in existence for more than 30 years and has been processing credit cards for the past five years. ANB specializes in start-up, low-volume businesses, including retail, MOTO, and in-home merchants. ANB has three branches and has grown to become one of the largest small merchant programs in the country, with more than 28,000 merchants.

ANB is a member of VISA and MasterCard and is the nationís third largest External Sales agent of Amex. ANB offers competitive equipment prices, processes debit and credit, and has its own propriety check guarantee program as well as a national No Turndown Leasing Program. ANB offers 100% residual above a buy rate of 1.49% for retail merchants and 100% residual above a 2.29% buy rate for MOTO. Transaction fee of $.20, $.30 for MOTO. ANB offers volume discounts on a monthly basis. ANB offers $25-$240 up-front commission on ANB check services, a $30 up-front commission on its warranty and supply club, and a $30 up- front commission on debit with no application fee for debit.

A statement fee of $10, revenue sharing opportunity based on volume. Monthly minimum is $25, $49 standard retail application fee, $75 standard MOTO application fee.

ANB also provides services to flea markets, high risk, Internet, and wholesale merchants. Offers ACH, credit, debit, check guarantee, EBT, guaranteed leasing program, and a turn-key equipment program.

Application turnaround is expedited by ANBís unique approval system. Sales offices fax the front and back of the merchant application to ANB and within 24 hours of ANBís receipt of the hard file, the merchant ID number is issued. First American Payment Systems, Inc., has established a competitive merchant program which offers credit processing, debit processing, check guarantee, ATMs, and leasing for all credit levels.

First American accepts business from retail, mail order, telephone order, home-based, start up and Internet merchants. The program has no restrictions on monthly volume or average ticket size, and issues merchant numbers within 24 hours of application receipt. They also offer automatic approval for businesses within 140 SIC codes without credit requirements.

First American rates start at 1.55% and residual income is 100% over the buy rates. There are no monthly processing minimums for merchants. The bank believes in providing strong customer service by offering out of warranty terminal repair and replacement at no additional charge to the merchant, free check recovery services, supplies at wholesale cost, free software upgrades, and a customer service center which includes an average answer time of less than seven seconds.

First Bank of Beverly Hillsí merchant program is more than five years old, but only within the last year and a half has FBBH been aggressively acquiring merchants. FBBH has structured its program with the Internet/MOTO merchants in mind, offering high approval percentages and 48-hour turnaround times. Member of Visa, MasterCard and external agent of AMEX. FBBH has recently developed a propriety real-time status report that allows agents to check the progress of merchant set-up via a secure site on the Internet.

FBBHís program offers approvals to all merchants with monthly processing volume under $25,000 and an average ticket under $150 (some exceptions apply). Higher volume merchants are also aggressively underwritten, and FBBH offers "soft-caps" on monthly volume limits. Application fees range from $25 to $50, depending on volume.
